The tax regime
United States taxes most sales under a Sales Tax system (regime type: sales_tax). The document title Ochre prints is “Invoice.”
Tax registration number
The tax registration number for United States is labelled EIN on an Ochre invoice.
Format: 2 digits, then a hyphen ("-"), then 7 digits.
Registration & thresholds
No federal registration. Sales-tax permits are per STATE where you have nexus (physical or economic). Economic nexus commonly triggers around $100k of sales or 200 transactions into a state per year, but thresholds vary by state and change often — check with your accountant. (0 USD)
Rates
Ochre doesn't calculate US sales tax automatically — rates vary by state, county, and city, and depend on where you're registered. Enter the rate that applies to this sale, or leave it at zero if you're not required to collect.
Price display
Ochre's default for United States is tax-exclusive pricing on a line item.
There is no requirement that consumer-facing prices display tax-inclusive.
Rounding
Tax is rounded half up, applied once for the invoice total, to a precision of 0.01.
Mandatory invoice fields
- Issue date
Fiscal year & dates
The fiscal year starts January 1. Dates print in MM/DD/YYYY order.
Currency
