Does Ochre work offline?

Yes, completely. Ochre has no backend, so there is nothing to be offline from. Every feature — issuing invoices, recording payments, producing statements and PDFs — works with no connection at all.

Do I need an account to use Ochre?

No. There is no sign-up screen, no email address, and no password, because there is no server to create an account on. You open the app and you are already in.

Where is my data stored?

On your own device, in Apple’s on-device database. Nothing is sent to a server operated by Ochre, and we have no ability to read your books.

Does Ochre sync between my devices?

Optionally. iCloud sync is off until you turn it on. When you do, your records mirror through the private database of your own iCloud account — readable only by the Apple ID that owns it, never by Ochre. With sync off, you move a backup file yourself, encrypted by default.

What does Ochre cost?

Free for 7 days on a Pro subscription, started with Face ID or Touch ID against the card already on your Apple ID — nothing is charged until the trial ends. After that: $99.99 a year, $11.99 a month, or $299.99 once for lifetime, which has no trial. One purchase covers every device you own.

Can I use Ochre for more than one business?

Yes, at no extra cost. You can run several businesses from the same app, each with its own tax IDs, rates, branding, numbering and wording. Ochre is never priced per business.

Which countries and tax systems does Ochre handle?

Twenty markets ship as data packs carrying that country’s tax structure — its tax classes, invoice rules and wording, including Indian GST with HSN/SAC codes. Rates come pre-filled as a starting point you confirm for your own business; Ochre doesn’t file or advise. Documents render in twelve languages, chosen from the client’s market, so a German client receives a German invoice.

Can I get my data out of Ochre?

Yes. Customers, vendors and products export as CSV, every document exports as a PDF, and a full backup — encrypted by default — is a file you hold and can restore from on any device you own.

Is Ochre available on Android or Windows?

Not yet. Ochre is a native app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Android and Windows are on the roadmap, and there is no web version — the books live on your device, not in a browser.

What does “local-first” actually mean?

That your books are stored on your own device and work fully without a network, rather than living on a company’s server and being shown to you through an app. The practical test is whether the product still works when the vendor is offline, or gone. Ochre has no server, so there is nothing to be cut off from.

Who is Ochre for?

One person or a small business who sends invoices and finds it a chore — freelancers, consultants, trades, small studios and shops. It is not an accounting package: there are no bank feeds, no reconciliation and no payroll.
