The quote
Picture a repaint that covers the walls and ceilings inside, then the trim and siding outside. That's an ordinary painting & decorating quote.
Pick Painting & Decorating during setup and Ochre starts your item list from a 6-item catalogue built for the trade — Interior wall painting, Ceiling painting, Exterior wall painting, among others — the document prints as “Estimate” rather than “Quotation,” and default terms are filled in so you are not typing them from scratch.
More than one option
A painting & decorating quote rarely has one right answer. Add an option and Ochre creates a sibling quotation — same customer, its own lines and price — so you can send one covering interior wall painting, a second that also covers ceiling painting, and a third that adds exterior wall painting, side by side until the customer picks one.
The customer accepts by typing their name and tapping Accept — no drawing, no separate app — or declines with a reason. Accepting one option voids the others automatically, each marked with why. For a quote sent as a PDF, you can mark it accepted yourself once the customer agrees another way — visibly a business note, never confused with the customer's own tap.
A deposit before the job starts
25% is a common starting point for this trade, but the figure is yours to set on every quote. Set a deposit on the quote as a percentage or a fixed amount; entering one clears the other. Once it's recorded, the same credit carries onto the invoice if the quote is accepted and converted — nothing entered twice.
Sections and optional lines
A multi-part job hides more in a single flat total than it shows. Group the lines into sections and each gets its own subtotal on the paper — “Interior” (Interior wall painting, Ceiling painting) and “Exterior” (Exterior wall painting, Trim and woodwork painting), for instance — with one total underneath.
A line can also be optional: it prints at its price but does not count toward any total until ticked. “Wallpaper hanging” is a natural one to leave optional here — the customer sees it, and only pays for it if they want it.
Photos and the job site
Attach photos to the document and they print as a strip on the finished PDF — before shots, a damaged section, whatever the quote needs to show. Add the job's own address once and it prints separately from the billing address, for when the person paying and the property being worked on are not the same place.
What Ochre doesn't do
Ochre does not schedule the job, chase the lead, or manage the customer relationship before a quote exists. It starts once there is a job to price: the quote, the options, the acceptance, the deposit, the invoice, and the record of what was paid.
