Are these tax rates guaranteed to be correct today?
No. Every preset rate is a starting value, shown with the date it was last checked and a link to its official source. Tax rules and rates change; confirm the current, correct treatment for your business with your own tax authority or accountant before you rely on this for filing. This is general guidance, not tax advice.
What's the difference between adding tax and extracting tax?
"Add tax" treats the amount you enter as the price before tax (net) and calculates what gets added on top. "Extract tax" treats the amount you enter as the final price a customer actually pays (gross, tax already included) and works out how much of it was tax. Both modes use the same rounding rule as the Ochre invoice generator, so the numbers agree.
Can I apply more than one tax to the same amount?
Yes, up to four. Choose "independently" for taxes that both apply to the original amount side by side (e.g. a federal tax and a provincial tax), or "compound" for a tax applied on top of the amount plus the taxes already added above it.
Does this tool send my numbers anywhere?
No. The amount and results are calculated entirely in your browser and never leave your device. The only network request this page makes is a static, non-personal fetch of the market rate list itself.
What this page cannot do
Tax is a property of a document, not of a sum.
This page will apply a rate you give it. It cannot tell you whether that rate is right for your registration — no tool can; that part is yours. What Ochre adds is the structure around it: your market’s regime shape, the fields and ID formats it expects, and a tax treatment frozen onto each invoice the moment you issue it, so an old document keeps saying what it said.
