    A receipt is the end of a thread this page cannot see.

    Here, a receipt is a piece of paper you fill in by hand. In Ochre it falls out of recording a payment: the invoice updates, the customer’s balance updates, and the receipt is numbered from the invoice it settles so it cannot be confused with another. Part-payments included — it prints what is still outstanding.

    Questions

    Is a receipt the same as an invoice?
    No — they run in opposite directions. An invoice is a request for money: it's sent before or as payment is due, and it says what's owed. A receipt is written after the fact, as confirmation that a specific payment already happened. A paid invoice and a receipt can describe the same transaction, but they serve different audiences and different moments — the payer usually wants the receipt for their own records, the issuer needs the invoice to have established what was owed in the first place.
    Can this tool check that the invoice number I typed is real?
    No. The related invoice number and date on this receipt are free text — this page has no record of any invoice you've ever issued, so it can't verify that number exists, that the amount matches, or that it hasn't already been paid twice. It prints exactly what you type.
    What happens if the customer only paid part of what they owed?
    Enter the invoice total and the amount paid, and the receipt marks itself PART PAYMENT with the remaining balance shown, rather than a plain PAID stamp — so nobody mistakes a partial payment for a settled account.
    Does this replace bookkeeping software?
    No. This is a document generator, not a ledger — it has no memory between visits and doesn't track running balances across multiple payments. It's general guidance, not accounting or tax advice; keep your own records, and confirm tax treatment with your own tax authority or accountant.
